Top 5 Permaculture Principles to Cultivate Authenticity in Your Entrepreneurial Journey Today
It's in our genes and our blood.
As entrepreneurs, we want to be successful.
At all costs?
Even if it means losing myself and having to live with a mask?
Am I becoming a people pleaser?
Most entrepreneurs live under constant threat. They try to please everyone. No matter how successful and experienced they are.
Being authentic means being real with yourself, your fellow humans, and business partners. A person you can trust. Someone who lives by their own rules in freedom.
This article will teach you to use 5 Permaculture principles in your business and personal life. It's easy to do. With immediate effect—guaranteed.
1. Observe and interact: with open eyes through life
Let's start with one of the core principles. Pay attention and interact with the world around you. Be conscious of your thoughts, feelings, and surroundings. By living purposefully, you'll make choices that reflect your true self. You could start your day with a meditation prompt like: How and for whom can I be useful today?
Impact: Paying close attention to your partners and clients helps you understand them better. But, the best part is this. Knowing your desires and values, before acting, leads to more authentic decisions.
2. Use small and slow solutions: less risk and bigger benefits
Most of us chase immediate results and wins. To get the dopamine rush. But radical changes usually offer more risks than benefits. The so-called "overnight" success doesn't exist. It's a buildup of experiences and knowledge over years. Making gradual, thoughtful changes is a very successful life strategy.
Impact: Using small and slow solutions encourages sustainable growth and authentic living. It enables your life to mirror your authentic self.
3. Apply self-regulation and accept feedback: learn from mistakes
Falling down on your knees, (whether in business or private life), is not a shame. It becomes a complete failure only when you don't stand up again. Making (huge) mistakes is part of the game. Analyze your actions and decisions to ensure they align with your goals. Being open to constructive feedback is, in my opinion, a real superpower. Go and find a mentor in your field of expertise. It was the most impactful decision in my business.
Impact: Applying this rule helps you stay true to your values. Sometimes you will need to adjust your path and take unpopular decisions. But this will ensure you remain aligned with your authentic self.
4. Design from patterns to details: always start with the big picture
Making a task list for today is completely useless if you don't know where you want to be tomorrow. Geniuses and mediocre entrepreneurs differ in their focus. Geniuses see the big picture. Mediocre entrepreneurs do not. You need to understand why and what your life goals and values are. Only then you can focus on the details.
Impact: Ensures that the larger vision of your life aligns with your values and goals. You can then plan small, everyday actions to support this vision.
5. Integrate rather than segregate: the famous work/life balance
As much as we sometimes believe it, we are never completely isolated from a problem or a task. Our whole life is a permanent interplay of different disciplines.
This is exactly the principle behind the FARMISH mindset. All our decisions and tasks always have an impact on one or more areas of our lives. As entrepreneurs and in our private lives, we seek balance. We want to balance freedom, authenticity, relationships, money, innovation, sustainability, and health.
You will grow a lot if you connect different parts of your life. Be it in work, relationships, or personal growth.
Impact: Integrating all aspects of your life will boost your growth. It helps you to create a fullfilled, integrated life where all parts of yourself are respected. Do you want to be truly you? Integrate rather than segregate is the rule that can change everything.
