The Invisible Cost of Ignoring Nature
Ever heard of a plant that thrives without sunlight, water, or fresh air?
Of course not. Many busy professionals (my former self included) neglect sanity. Especially small business owners and solopreneurs, grow their businesses unsustainably. Plain and simple: in unnatural ways. They work long hours, take no breaks, and hustle until they drop.
Here’s the thing—you’re not a machine.
You know this. But why do we forget it all the time? How about this way?
You’re more like a tree. Without grounding, sunlight, and natural rhythms, your business and life will wither.
But it’s not always obvious at first. Sure, we hear about burnout all the time. Colleges, friends, business partners. First? Only rumors. Then. You hear they're staying home. Or they were taken to a cure. One less. Who's next? It's a bit like Russian Roulette, don't you think? That's the obvious result of mental and physical overwhelm.
But what about the less obvious effects of disconnecting from Nature?
Lack of creativity: You’re spinning the same ideas over and over.
Stalled growth: Your business is “fine,” but nothing feels alive.
Constant crush: Your brain feels cluttered, like an unsolved puzzle in the package.
You don't realize it. But ignoring Nature’s principles makes you feel stuck, uninspired, and exhausted. Let’s change that.
First, let's see how Nature "thinks".
Why Nature’s Laws Matter More Than You Realize
Nature doesn’t rush, yet it gets everything done. A plant grows at its pace. Where it thrives best. A river carves valleys. Even if it takes millennials. But with unstoppable consistency.
What is important?
Boundaries matter (like seasons dictate when plants bloom).
Rest feeds productivity (the lion rests in shade before the next hunt.).
Simplicity works best (Nature thrives on balance, not chaos).
You want ignore these principles? Good luck. In a matter of time, your life gets lopsided. Long hours become badges of honor. And worse, your constant “busyness” feels productive. Until you realize nothing is moving forward. At some point, you catch yourself googling "best burnout clinic near me"
How to prevent that stage? Glad you ask.
Here are some simple, but effective steps. (but you have to do them honestly...)
Step 1: Acknowledge What’s Missing—And Why It Matters
Before you can reconnect, you need to recognize the gaps. Ask yourself:
When was the last time I spent an hour outdoors, just being?
Do I build rest into my schedule, or do I just collapse when I can’t go anymore?
How often do I feel stuck and uninspired? Or with zero creativity?
Think of these gaps as “dry soil.” Without the right inputs like fresh air, movement, and natural rhythms. You’re trying to grow a garden without water! (As a 20+ year homesteader, let me tell you: It won't WORK.
Pro Tip: Take five minutes right now. Look out a window, step outside, or just sit still. Feel your environment. Smell the air. Take a deep breath. Notice what changes in your body and thoughts?
This is the beginning of awareness.
Step 2: Set Clear Boundaries (Like Nature Does)
In Nature, boundaries are sacred. A river doesn’t overflow its banks without consequences. Trees grow only within their natural limits.
As a solopreneur or small business owner, you must set boundaries for yourself. Especially when no one else is doing it for you.
Stop working late into the night (you’re not a bat, aka a nocturnal creature).
Carve out non-negotiable “off” time. Whether it’s weekends, evenings, or a daily hour. Communicate it clearly. Make your little world understand them. Be polite but firm.
Say no to opportunities that don't "feel" good.
When I ran my small trading business, this lesson changed everything. I used to think boundaries were “lazy.” But once I started protecting my time, I created more ideas. They began to flow with ease. In consequence, my business started to grow in creative, unexpected ways. My marketing became more interesting for potential clients. My blog posts were read more often. And the ROI on Facebook ads? A pleasure to see!
Key Insight: Your brain needs breaks to process information. It's like a lion that rests to recharge for the next hunt. Protect that time. At all costs!
Step 3: Make Rest and Recovery a Non-Negotiable
Trees shed leaves in the fall? The first reaction in our current hustle culture? The tree is not growing. What lazy shit is this? Some might declare it a failure. But it’s not. It’s Nature’s way of conserving energy for the next season of growth.
You need this, too. Rest isn’t wasted time. It’s where your mind regenerates.
Take regular me-time: Go for a nature walk or just sit outside.
Schedule creative downtime: No emails, no calls—daydreaming space.
Sleep like your business depends on it (because it does).
Here’s the magic part: The more I rested, the sharper my ideas became. I found solutions to problems that had stumped me for weeks. Often on a simple walk.
(It's no secret anymore that many of the most successful entrepreneurs take "off-time". Or spend some time in a retreat to think over ideas).
Step 4: Reintroduce ‘Flow’ to Your Work Routine
Nature doesn’t force things. Flowers bloom when conditions are right. Rivers flow where gravity pulls them.
This is flow—the state where you feel deeply focused, creative, and in sync. But it’s hard to reach flow. Especially if you’re grinding nonstop.
Here’s how to design your time. Perfect for flow.
Start your day intentionally. A few minutes of fresh air, deep breathing, or journaling can set the tone.
Take natural breaks. Short pauses every 90 minutes mimic your body's ultradian rhythms.
Do deep work in nature-inspired spaces. Work near sunlight, with plants, or even outside, if possible.
When you let yourself “flow,” work becomes lighter, clearer, and far more effective.
Step 5: Design Your Days Like a Thriving Ecosystem
Nature works as a system—every part supports the others. You can design your life this way, too.
Work smarter, not harder: Focus on essential tasks that move the needle. (I know, sometimes it's hard to see WHAT exactly that is. We are often pleased with the idea of being productive. But in reality, it does not add value in any form to the business...)
Incorporate Nature into your daily routine: Walks, outdoor breaks, or meetings outside. This should be a non-negotiable.
Nurture your inputs: Fresh air, healthy food, enough sleep—these are your fuel.
Small changes add up. Over time, you’ll feel clearer, lighter, and far more grounded.

Yeah, if it wasn’t for nature …. I really have to live out into the country. I cannot live in the city. I don’t like a lot of noise, traffic, people it’s overwhelming. Used to live life in the Fastlane in my younger days and went from a city girl to a country girl and I’m loving every minute of it.
Thank you so much for all that you do.
